海角乱伦社区 to Host Peacebuilding Session

海角乱伦社区 and its Center for Global Peace Journalism will host a session on 鈥淐ombating Misinformation: Tools and Techniques鈥 as part of the annual Greater Kansas City Peacebuilding Conference on Wednesday, Nov. 9, from noon to 1:15 p.m. at the McCoy Meetin鈥 House on the University鈥檚 flagship Parkville (Mo.) Campus. The event is open to the public. The program will include a trio of speakers who will discuss misinformation and disinformation, and how it impacts the academic world, as well as professional journalism. The presentation will include information on how to combat misinformation/disinformation and how to become more enlightened media consumers. A panel discussion and questions-and-answer session will conclude the event. Steven Youngblood, founding director of the CGPJ and associate professor of communication arts at 海角乱伦社区, will be one of the speakers. Parkville Campus Announces 2022 Homecoming Royalty

As part of 海角乱伦社区鈥檚 recent Homecoming Weekend 2022 festivities on the flagship Parkville (Mo.) Campus, eight Park students were announced as homecoming royalty during halftime of the match against Baker University on Oct. 1, as voted on by the student body based on how those honored exemplify Park鈥檚 core values: accountability, civility and respect, excellence, global citizenship, inclusivity and integrity.

International Festival Set for Nov. 18

In celebration of , 海角乱伦社区鈥檚 Office of International Student Services will host its annual International Festival on Friday, Nov. 18. The event will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Park Avenue area within the Mabee Learning Center/Academic Underground on the University鈥檚 flagship Parkville (Mo.) Campus. Admission to the festival is free and open to the public.

The International Festival will include information booths, performances, cultural activities and fashion shows featuring countries around the globe, with Park international students representing their native countries and sharing the unique and diverse characteristics of their homeland. Countries scheduled to be represented include Bangladesh, Brazil, China, The Gambia, Ghana, India, Iran, Japan, Kenya, Malawi, Mexico, Nepal, Pakistan, Russia, Togo, Uganda, Uzbekistan and Vietnam. In all, the University boasts more than 530 students from 70 countries.

In addition to the festival, an international buffet will be served from 5 to 6:30 p.m. featuring foods from each continent. Park students and employees on a meal plan can eat free with their Park ID; for the general public, the price for the buffet is $12. Clay Hand ExhibitCampanella Gallery to Feature Student Clay Art Exhibit

The next art exhibit in the 海角乱伦社区 Campanella Gallery鈥檚 2022-23 season will be a showcase of student works, 鈥淗and Studies in Clay,鈥 that will run Thursday, Nov. 10, through Wednesday, Nov. 30. Admission to the Gallery is free. A reception for the artists will be held on Friday, Nov. 18, from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Gallery, which is located within Norrington Center on the University鈥檚 flagship Parkville (Mo.) Campus. Eighteen 海角乱伦社区 students from classes taught by Elaina Michalski, assistant teaching professor of fine art, will exhibit their work sculpted from direct observation of the hand to create naturalistic three-dimensional forms using stoneware clay. The Navigator Seeks Student Writing Submissions

海角乱伦社区鈥檚 undergraduate research journal, The Navigator: Excellent Student Writing Across the Disciplines, is asking undergraduate students to consider submitting academic work 鈥 from any discipline completed in a Park course during the 2022 calendar year 鈥 for possible publication. The publication is designed to highlight the best undergraduate student writing at Park, with an emphasis on the richness and variety of academic research across the University.

To have your work considered for publication, undergraduates should submit their work along with their name, Park ID number, title of the project, the course and name of the instructor for which the project was produced and a short description of the assignment to navigator@park.edu. Glenn LesterIn October, an authored by Glenn Lester, assistant professor of English, was selected as the grand prize winner of a novel excerpt contest held by The Masters Review. In the excerpt, readers meet 鈥淪ammy Slug鈥 — the protagonist of the novel — a 14-year-old dealing with the recent loss of his father, a decorated cross country coach. Lester won a $3,000 prize and a consultation with a literary agent. On Oct. 7, an .

Dr. Kathy HoweKathy Howe, Ph.D., assistant professor of literacy education and director of the Watson Literacy Center, co-authored the article that was published in the winter 2022-23 issue of The Missouri Reader. The article is about professional learning activity for use by K-12 teachers and teacher leaders about the science of reading.

Andrea LeeAndrea Lee, Ph.D., associate professor of fine art and director of the Campanella Gallery, had a mixed media artwork, that runs through Friday, Nov. 11.

Elisha Knapp, a senior multimedia journalism and public relations major, won the informative speaking category at the Derryberry Season Opener in Bolivar, Mo., Oct. 7-8, and she won the same category at 海角乱伦社区鈥檚 Riverfest Tournament on Oct. 15.

Dr. Henry RoehrichHank Roehrich, Ph.D., associate professor of management/marketing, presented a peer-reviewed, refereed paper at the Marketing Management Association鈥檚 fall educators conference in San Antonio on Sept. 22. The paper 鈥淥nline Group Projects: Instructor Path to Creating Student Ownership,鈥 was also co-authored by Nicholas Miceli, Ph.D., associate professor of management/human resources, and Roehrich鈥檚 spouse, Julie Grabanski, Ph.D. Roehrich also was a panelist for the session on 鈥淚nnovations in Teaching Buyer Behavior鈥 on Sept. 23.

Tim HanrahanTim Hanrahan, Ph.D., dean of the College of Education and Health Professions, presented a session on 鈥淒evelopmental Relationships: An Examination into Student Perceptions of their Relationships with Faculty Members鈥 at the University of New Mexico鈥檚 annual Mentoring Conference on Oct. 25. The purpose of the study was to investigate the perceptions of students on the importance of developmental relationships related to teacher satisfaction and retention.
