Why Study Educational Leadership?

An educational leadership degree provides the knowledge, skills, and real-world experience needed to lead and inspire in today鈥檚 evolving K-12 educational landscape. The fully online, 30-hour Master of Education in Educational Leadership is designed for working professionals and aligns with Missouri鈥檚 certification requirements for principals and K-12 leadership. Courses are continually updated to reflect state standards and are highly practical, enabling students to hone their leadership skills in a way that is directly applicable in their schools. Students may earn credit for prior teaching experience through the Prior Learning Assessment, allowing them to accelerate their path to graduation in pursuit of their career goals.

What You’ll Learn

• You will explore the historical and theoretical foundations of teacher leadership, with a focus on the evolving role of principals in today鈥檚 schools. Through field experience, you鈥檒l connect educational leadership standards and best practices to real-world school settings.
• You will be equipped to design, implement, and evaluate curriculum while effectively using assessment data to inform instruction and improve student achievement. You鈥檒l learn how to supervise and evaluate faculty performance to promote high-quality instruction and school improvement. Field experiences help reinforce these skills by applying them directly in K鈥�12 environments.
• Your master鈥檚 degree in educational leadership will enable you to examine strategies for building strong school-community relationships and fostering inclusive and supportive learning environments, including internal and external communication and collaboration with families and community partners.
• With a master鈥檚 degree in educational leadership, you鈥檒l gain essential knowledge of education law, learning to interpret and apply legal principles that impact public schools, including specialized instruction for students with disabilities. Emphasis is placed on due process, discipline procedures, and creating legally sound, inclusive educational environments.
• During the educational leadership degree program, you will develop practical skills in managing day-to-day school operations, including budgeting, safety, human resources, and ADA compliance.
